DET-SMK/RF/AC/1 & DET-SMK/RF/AC/10 Smoke Alarm Troubleshooting Guide

TESTING YOUR DET-SMK/RF/AC/1 & DET-SMK/RF/AC/10 SMOKE ALARMS

We recommend testing your DET-SMK/RF/AC/1 & DET-SMK/RF/AC/10 Smoke Alarms monthly to confirm they are working correctly.

1. Press and hold the Test button until you hear the alarm sound.

2. All interconnected alarms should sound at the same time confirming that the wireless network in functioning properly.

3. Release the button to stop the test.

4. After testing, ensure the red LED on each alarm is flashing. This will continue for approximately three minutes, indicating the test was successful.

Test Function Red LED flashes once every second with alarm sounding until the TEST button is released.
  • Test by pressing the TEST button on the smoke alarm for at least 5 seconds.
  • The alarm will sound if all functioning properly.
  • If no alarm sounds, refer to “Troubleshooting”.
  • Recommend testing the alarm weekly by pressing the TEST button.
Hush Mode The Red LED flashes every 8 seconds.
  • This smoke alarm has a built-in Silence feature.
  • If cooking or other false triggers cause the alarm to sound, it can be temporarily silenced by pressing the HUSH button for more than 2 seconds.
  • The alarm enters Hush mode for 10 minutes.
  • After the 10 minute hushed period, the smoke alarm will resume normal operation.
Alarm Triggered The Red LED flashes every second with alarm sounding. Smoke (or false trigger) detected and alarm sounds.
Alarm Memory The Red LED flashes twice every 24 seconds After the unit triggers, it enters a memory state, and the red LED flashes twice every 24 seconds for one week.
Interconnection Alarm The unit alarms sounds without Red LED flashing. The unit will enter the interconnection alarm mode when interconnected alarm signals received.
Interconnection Alarm Memory The Red LED flashes once, every 1 second. After the unit exits Interconnection alarm state, it enters Interconnection alarm memory state, and red LED flashes once, every 1 second, for 3 minutes.
Do Not Disturb Function Red LED flashes once every 48 seconds When the unit indicates a low battery, pushing the HUSH button will silence the alarm for 10 hours and red LED will flash once every 48 seconds.
Red LED flashes twice every 48 seconds When the unit indicates a internal fault, pushing the HUSH button will silence the alarm for 10 hours and red LED will flash twice every 48 seconds.

FACTORY RESETTING DET-SMK/RF/AC/1 & DET-SMK/RF/AC/10 SMOKE ALARMS

To restore your DET-SMK/RF/AC/1 & DET-SMK/RF/AC/10 Smoke Alarms to their factory settings:

1. Isolate the mains power by pushing the button on the side of the alarm to detach the head from the base and have it swing down from the ceiling.

2. Remove the backup battery.

3. Press and hold the Test button while reinserting the battery.

4. The red LED will illuminate for 3 seconds.

5. When the red LED turns off, release the Test button.

6. When the red LED lights up again for 3 seconds, press the Test button once to unpair and complete the factory reset.

7. The alarm will chirp three times to confirm a successful reset.

8. Swing the alarm head back up and secure it onto the base until it clicks into place.

DET-SMK/RF/AC/1 SMOKE ALARM BATTERY INFORMATION

The DET-SMK/RF/AC/1 Smoke Alarm includes a one-year alkaline backup battery designed to keep the alarm operating during a power outage. This battery should be replaced every 12 months. 

1. A single chirp accompanied by a red LED flash every 48 seconds indicates the backup battery needs replacing. This alert cannot be silenced until the battery is changed. 

2. Press the Push button on the side of the alarm to release it from its base. Open the alarm body and replace the backup battery with a new one. 

3. Close the alarm body securely, then refit the unit onto its base until it clicks into place.

THE DET-SMK/AC/RF/10 SMOKE ALARM BATTERY AND REPLACEMENT INFORMATION

The DET-SMK/AC/RF/10 Smoke Alarm contains a non-replaceable 10-year battery designed to last for the full life of the unit.

1. When the alarm reaches the end of its service life, it will emit one chirp with two red LED flashes every 48 seconds.

2. This signal means the entire unit must be replaced. You can also confirm this by checking the printed expiry date on the back of the alarm.

Battery & Unit Replacement for MATelec DET-SMK AC & RF Smoke Alarms (1-Year & 10-Year Models)

PAIRING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Select one smoke alarm to act as the MASTER unit and apply the provided MASTER sticker. A centrally located alarm is recommended for optimal communication. If your system includes both wired and wireless alarms, the MASTER should be a centrally located wired alarm.

2. Press the TEST button on the MASTER three times within 2 seconds to activate pairing mode. Pairing mode will remain active for 30 seconds.

3. To pair each SLAVE alarm, press the TEST button on the SLAVE three times within 2 seconds. If pairing is successful, both alarms will emit one short chirp and the SLAVE LED will turn off. Repeat this step for each additional SLAVE alarm.

4. Once all alarms are paired, press and hold the MASTER TEST button until the red LED turns off to confirm the MASTER has exited pairing mode.
