Beyond Tradition
– A Smarter
Solution!

A smarter, more configurable alternative to the discontinued MultiTrode conductivity probe and MultiTrode/MultiSmart pump controllers.

When legacy systems like the MultiTrode and MultiSmart are discontinued, it’s time to rethink what’s possible. At MATelec Australia, we offer a superior solution: replace the fixed-point, high-maintenance MultiTrode with a Hydrostatic Transducer – a modern, infinitely configurable way to monitor liquid levels with greater accuracy and less effort.

Connect it to our range of smart control systems, a powerful, cost-effective alternative to the MultiTrode and MultiSmart controllers, with added support for additional features or functionality – whether it be a well washer, or remote monitoring. And, in addition to off-the-shelf options, we can deliver completely custom-built control solutions, tailored to your application.

MORE THAN COMPONENTS.

COMPLETE CUSTOM SYSTEMS.

The MATelec Australia Advantage

Where MultiSmart was a stand-alone control module and the MultiTrode
a probe, MATelec Australia delivers entire systems. From concept to
completion, we design and build control panels that include everything,
from compliant power supply termination and isolation, to labelled motor
connection terminals, – customised to your application requirements.
One supplier, one complete solution, ready to go.

MORE SET POINTS.

MORE FLEXIBILITY.

Hydrostatic Transducer
Configurability vs MultiTrode

The MultiTrode’s rigid design limits control to a fixed number
of level points in a fixed probe length, based on sensor spacing.
However, with a hydrostatic transducer, the variables are infinite.
Set your switching setpoints at any desired level within the pit.
It’s the flexibility your application demands.

UNMATCHED PRECISION WITH
REDUCED MAINTENANCE.

Hydrostatic Transducer
Accuracy vs MultiTrode

The hydrostatic transducer measures level from near the
base of the pit, making it a far more accurate and reliable
level sensor, than conductivity-based sensors.

MultiTrode probes, hanging through the liquid surface,
are prone to scum build-up and crusting around each sensing
point, rendering their switching signals unreliable,
without regular maintenance. We hear all too often of
situations where debris such as toilet paper and other
suspended solids wraps itself around a sensing point,
causing a pump to run constantly, when there may not be water
to pump, thereby overheating, burning out the pump motor,
and in some cases, disfiguring discharge pipework.

In the case of the Hydrostatic Transducer, it is
suspended immediately above the floor of the pump well, an
area considerably lower than the operational water level
within the well, minimising maintenance and servicing demands.

SMARTER CONTROL FOR MODERN SYSTEMS.

Custom-Built Control Systems – Tailored to Your Application

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are MATelec Australia able to supply separate components only, for me to integrate into a system?

No, unlike the MultiTrode/MultiSmart range of products, we do not supply components on their own. We specialise in working with you, working out exactly what you need for the situation and system, and designing and engineering a solution just for you! Contact our team to have a free consultation with an expert.

I want a simple 10-point conductivity probe just like the MultiTrode. Does MATelec Australia have one of these?

Yes! We certainly can offer a like-for-like replacement of the MultiTrode conductivity probe in either one-, four-, or ten-point configuration. You can find more information on our range, along with our other level sensors here. However, given the reasons above such as infinite setpoint adjustability, greater level fidelity, reduced maintenance, and reliability, we strongly recommend you consider our range of Hydrostatic Transducers. Book a free consultation with one of our expert system engineers to learn more.

Is there a direct replacement for my existing MultiTrode/MultiSmart controller module?

No, there is not a direct replacement for an existing MultiTrode controller module. MATelec Australia offers a range of complete solutions that can replace the functionality of a MultiTrode Controller but do not provide a direct replacement that can be built into a panel.

I already have a MultiTrode controller – Can I upgrade to a hydrostatic transducer?

No, not without a complex reconfiguration process and potential costly upgrade to the surrounding system. Apart from the MultiSmart which can take a 4-20 mA input, the MultiTrode range of controllers were designed to exclusively use the MultiTrode conductivity probe for level control, so a MultiTrode style conductivity probe would need to be used for control.

Why are conductivity-based controllers being phased out, or becoming less common?

We are seeing more and more that analogue devices, with infinite scaling, such as hydrostatic or radar transducers, are for good reason, being adopted as preferred technology over fixed set point conductivity sensors.

Does a Hydrostatic Transducer require more servicing than a conductivity probe?

No! A major benefit of using a hydrostatic transducer, is that it requires significantly less maintenance. Conductivity probes, like the MultiTrode, hanging in the operational level of the pump well, are prone to scum build-up and crusting around each sensor, at times, making them unreliable, and requiring constant maintenance for optimum performance. With the transducer suspended immediately above the floor of the pit or tank, buildup is minimal, reducing service time and costs.

Does MATelec Australia have a direct replacement for MultiSmart?

No, we don’t; however, we have the capability to manufacture a complete solution that has the same functionality, using more technologically advanced components, coupled with best practice and compliant electrical design. Consult with our experienced and qualified team member to find a solution that meets your specific needs and the demands of the application.
