Reliable stormwater pump control for a 70-hectare commercial estate, combining easy-to-use HydroTOUCH operation with remote monitoring.
For QMAX Pumping Systems, reliable stormwater management was essential to supporting a new 70-hectare commercial estate at Enterprise Park in Benalla, Victoria. With gravity drainage unavailable, the development needed a dependable pumping system to meet council requirements and manage flood risk. QMAX partnered with MATelec Australia to deliver a custom HydroTOUCH control panel that makes the system straightforward to operate and monitor.
The Enterprise Park development needed a stormwater pumping solution to meet council requirements and support the opening of new commercial land.
With the site’s position relative to existing infrastructure preventing gravity drainage, a pump station was required to move stormwater out of the system. Reliable control was essential to manage water levels and reduce the risk of flooding across the estate.
QMAX also needed a controller tailored to the pumps and site requirements. Early coordination was important: the panel’s dimensions informed the concrete slab design, while evolving requirements meant the control solution needed to accommodate changes as the project progressed.

“Choosing a reliable controller supplier like MATelec Australia is critical and an early part of the process for us.”
MATelec Australia worked with QMAX to design and build a custom pump control panel incorporating HydroTOUCH, built-in variable frequency drives and ME-link remote monitoring.
Selected for its reliability and ease of use, HydroTOUCH monitors multiple analogue inputs to track sump water levels and determine when to turn the pumps on and off. This maintains the movement of stormwater out of the system, while the variable frequency drives provide motor speed control.
A 7-inch colour touchscreen gives operators clear visibility of system activity and access to controls at the panel. QMAX highlighted the intuitive interface as a key benefit, making it straightforward to train operators and understand what is happening in real time.

“HydroTOUCH is easy to use and makes operator training straightforward. Anyone with a basic understanding of an HMI screen can see what’s happening in real time. That ease of use is why HydroWHIZ and HydroTOUCH are our preferred controllers.”
The integrated ME-link system enables remote monitoring of pump operation and faults, supporting ongoing oversight without relying solely on on-site inspections.
MATelec supported QMAX throughout design and delivery, accommodating changes as the project approached production. Local manufacturing and close collaboration allowed the teams to adapt the panel to the revised requirements and resolve potential issues quickly.

“I’d definitely recommend MATelec Australia for any pumping system control requirements. Their systems are reliable, and their products work every time.”
